Stumbling Upon Your Painting Series Success and Evolving From There

A couple of years ago I took a appointment and I ended up somehow Bisbee, Arizona. If you ' ve never been there it is a snappy teeny offering apartment, it is a bantam flaky, and ideal artsy. There is an old mining museum there, and the property has been around since the 1800s. It has quite a bit of history and it ' s just a frore seat to hang out with great restaurants and a real copacetic ambience. I spent quite a bit of spell in the local coffee shop there during my visit and met numerous folks who were artists selling to all the tourists who came by.

In talking to a local painter and artist she noted that she paints three or four types of paintings over and over again with a little variation here and there. She ' s learned what colors people are most apt to buy, and which arrangements that her art lovers and customers most prefer. Over time she stumbled upon several painting series that she does, and she makes a very good living and lives up on one of the hills with a great view of the little Valley there.

She told me that her art is always evolving, and she knows as soon as someone walks in the door what their tastes might be by the type of clothes they wear, and as soon as she asks them where they are from. When the Canadian dollar was hitting an all - time high there were more tourists coming into their town, and she started painting the types of things that they like the most.

She stopped painting one of her series which was a favorite amongst the European travelers after the economy started tanking there, they just didn ' t have the money to buy her expensive paintings, and she didn ' t figure on lowering the price and cheapening her product or going for low - cost high - volume strategies, after all she is a well - known artist.

We talked about the realities that not all artists are as original thinking as you might be led to believe. Many of them are imitators and they will copy her series and start selling them. Sometimes they are local artists who compete in her same city, which really upsets her. Other times people see her work on the Internet and start producing similar type paintings. She laughs because they often pick the paintings which do not sell well, because they haven ' t figured that out yet.

She said the best way to make money as an artist painting in series is to constantly evolve your work, and then it doesn ' t matter if someone imitates you, as they are always two paces behind, while you are accelerating four steps ahead. Do you see that point? Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
